Takintope Akinbiyi, MD
Dr. Akinbiyi is originally from Nigeria but grew up in Toronto, Canada. He attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He then completed medical school at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, followed by a general surgery residency at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. During the final year of his general surgery residency, he was selected to serve as an administrative chief resident. He then completed his plastic surgery training at the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
While he has received broad training in general reconstruction and cosmetics, he has a specific focus on breast surgery (microsurgical/autologous and implant-based reconstruction, reductions, augmentation), ventral hernia repair, surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation, and body contouring.
Dr. Akinbiyi is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This means that he is recognized for meeting national standards for education, knowledge, experience, and skills to provide high-quality care in plastic surgery, including:
- Expertise in a broad range of surgical and non-surgical procedures
- Providing leading edge treatment for a diverse clinical problems
- Utilizing the latest advancements in technology and medicine
His research interests include wound healing, clinical outcomes, and surgical innovation. He has authored nearly 15 manuscripts, has reviewed for many premier journals in the field of plastic surgery, and has lectured at local, regional, and national meetings.
His extensive training, engineering background, and research experience have helped him develop the ability to provide comprehensive clinical and surgical care for his patients. He strives to bring compassion and warmth to each patient encounter. Dr. Akinbiyi is dedicated to patient care and enjoys working with patients to develop individualized care plans that focus on helping them achieve their goals.
Dr. Akinbiyi lives in Coralville with his wife and two sons. They enjoy cooking and travel and keep saltwater fish tanks.
