Breast Reduction: What about pregnancy and breast feeding?

“It is so much easier to be active and play with my children.”

Generally speaking, it is best not to become pregnant during the first year following the procedure. The operation will not have an effect on your ability to become pregnant or deliver a baby. A pregnancy can lead to marked changes in breast size and shape. A rapid enlargement of breasts during the pregnancy can lead to markedly widened scars.

While some patients who have had a breast reduction have been able to breast-feed after their operation, this is not the normal expectation. Most women who have this operation are unable to breast-feed with a pregnancy after the operation. If breast-feeding is important to you, consider delaying the operation until after you have had your children.
