Breast Augmentation: What is breast augmentation?

Dr. Grado performs breast augmentation at the Surgery Center of Cedar Rapids managed by St. Luke's Hospital here in Cedar Rapids. It is a modern facility that opened in 2001. Anesthesia is usually provided by board certified anesthesiologists. You will be put to sleep by an anesthesiologist who will be with you the entire time you are under anesthesia. Dr. Grado will do your operation. We have no residents in training who would be involved in your care. You will be asked to be there 90 minutes before your operation. The operation lasts one hour.
Most patients are able to leave the facility about an hour after their operation is complete. We will provide you with a list of local hotels that will give you a price reduction for being our patient. You will need to have someone stay with you. Dr. Grado is a phone call away if you have questions or concerns the night of your operation. You will come to the office the next day to be seen and have your dressing changed. You will be provided with a breast "strap" at that time. You will need to be seen about two weeks after your operation to remove your sutures and to instruct you in displacement exercises. After that visit, your remaining visits can be set up at your convenience.
Most women will have their operation on Thursday and return to a desk type job by Monday. If your work requires lifting, we will have to discuss that further. We can provide restrictions for you if you need them.
